Emotional Home: Building a Legacy of Health After Abuse

By Claudia Zundel

Denver, CO: August 17, 2026. Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to Emotional Home: Building a Legacy of Health After Abuse by Claudia Zundel. This book is a memoir about breaking the silence around emotional abuse after the fact and choosing to leave a legacy of emotional health for the next generation. After her husband’s death, Ms. Zundel was forced to confront hard truths such as the marriage might have been emotionally abusive and that it affected her sons more than she was aware. Emotional Home is both a reckoning with her past and a letter to her sons, showing that change is always possible, and from fractured upbringings, forgiveness and resilience can create a true emotional home, even with adult children.

Journey Institute Press Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “Many books have been written on abusive relationships, usually with the goal of helping someone escape. In her groundbreaking book Emotional Home, Claudia Zundel frames the journey not as one of victimhood, but as one of responsibility: to tell the truth, to learn from past pain, and to build a legacy of health rather than silence. With the tools she learned along the way, this book is a story about staying and dealing with the consequences. The question this memoir grapples with is how to stop the cycle for the next generation, and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of her publishing journey.”

Claudia Zundel is a writer, consultant, and former director in behavioral health with over three decades of experience working in mental health, substance use prevention, and youth development. As a lifelong social worker, she has led statewide initiatives, developed prevention programs, and consulted with nonprofits and government agencies. She is recognized as one of the pioneering leaders in early childhood mental health. She specialized in programs serving families, children, and youth. The irony of the memoir is that while she served others, her own family was in turmoil. This is her first published book, although she has published professional articles in magazines and journals. She currently lives in the foothills of Denver, Colorado, with her amazing cat, Isabelle, and maintains healthy relationships with her two adult sons.

One Day

By Bahati Kanyamanza

Denver, CO: January 8, 2026. Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to One Day by Bahati Kanyamanza. Bahati Kanyamanza is a dedicated human rights advocate and development professional with over 20 years of leadership experience in refugee advocacy, organizational development, program design, resource mobilization, research, capacity building, and policy change. A naturalized U.S. citizen and former refugee for over 25 years, Bahati’s work centers on the rights and empowerment of forcibly displaced populations and underserved communities globally.

The Three Suns of Asha

By Z.E. Silver

Denver, CO: December 8, 2025, Wordbinders Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to The Three Suns of Asha, a desert fantasy about two nations who find themselves in the longest period of peace after centuries of war, creating opportunities for diplomacy and economic prosperity. With a new faction determined to upend the fragile peace, The Three Suns of Asha follows multiple characters as they navigate rising tensions—exploring issues such as multiple truths, identity, loyalty, and whether we can move beyond our own history.

Journey Institute Press Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “We are thrilled announce the upcoming publication of Z.E. Silver’s debut fantasy novel. This story is as timely as it is timeless and we are so excited to be bringing the world Mr. Silver has built, along with the myriad cast of characters, to readers across the globe. We are honored to embark on this publishing journey alongside him and look forward to celebrating the arrival of this extraordinary book!”

With Buffy the Vampire Slayer being the first television show he ever loved, Z.E. Silver learned from an early age that just because the undead are involved, doesn’t mean that a piece of media can’t offer a deep understanding of what it means to be human. He decided to take a lifetime of learning about people—their hopes, their dreams, their insecurities, their pain, and everything in between—and combine it with his passion for the implausible and the impossible.
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Z.E. Silver now lives in Phoenix, Arizona where he fills his time by staying active, checking out the neighborhood coffee shop, and even snowboarding a few days a year. When he’s not writing, he’s desperately trying to convince everyone that Phoenix isn’t actually that hot, and that the dry heat is, in fact, a real thing.

It is just as raw, just as vulnerable, just as impactful as ACT, ONE., maybe even more so; and perhaps, just as needed in today’s world.”

From Chris: This book was meant to capture the fact that my life is changing. Becoming something open ended, because it won’t end for four years, and will have lasting impacts on my life. All I wanted to do was capture the first quarter of it, and pray that I have enough inspiration after my freshman year to keep writing. My last book was to help someone else, I think this book is more to help me. I want to become someone I like – someone who can be independent and still understand that there is a kind of beauty that comes with needing someone else. And I think I’ve started to understand that.

Women Powering Microsoft’s Trillion-Dollar Shift

Denver, CO: June 5, 2025, Journey Ink Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to OPULIS, a commemorative coffee table book–documenting Microsoft’s enduring role in shaping inclusive technology and amplifying women-led initiatives as an ICONIC artifact for future generations.

For generations, women in tech have redefined what access means—not just opening doors but rebuilding the threshold. Their collective leadership has forged blueprints that democratize economic mobility, skill readiness, and digital participation. The making of OPULIS was never about creating a vanity list. It has been about honoring Microsoft’s legacy makers of our time. OPULIS is a signal to every Microsoft woman, today and over the next 50 years, that you belong, you have impact, and your story matters

Journey Institute Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication, said: “What Women in Cloud (WIC) are doing in the tech space is monumental. To be a part of the mission of this book, namely to identify 50 women whose leadership has shaped our world over the last 50 years—and whose legacy will shape what’s next, is a tremendous honor and we couldn’t be more excited to help the team at WIC on their publishing journey.”

From the team at WIC: OPULIS is not just a collection of stories. It is the blueprint of economic access designed to endure across generations. This book is a window into the lives of women who created change and left an impact for more of us to benefit. It is also our map to help you navigate your career and empower others. And this is a movement—your call to action—to shape a world where women don’t just participate, they lead, innovate, and thrive.

Shadows of the Past

A Memoir

Denver, CO: October 11, 2024, Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to Shadows of the Past, a dual memoir by Annita Rodgers.

Shadows of the Past is a dual memoir written in two parts. First by a German SS Officer, and second by Annita Rodgers, his oldest daughter, born in France to her French Mother and German SS Father. Discovering her father’s manuscript many years later, Annita, who is trilingual, translated it from its original German into English. This is not a typical WWII Memoir but rather the saga of a family from two different countries during an impossible time in history.

Journey Institute Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication, said: “This is not the usual story of a German SS Officer or World War II memoir. It is a story that doesn’t get told in the annals of history. A story of a family from two different countries and cultures, and from two vastly different perspectives of hardship and heartbreak and, ultimately, of resilience and hope. We are incredibly honored to be joining Annita on her publishing journey.”

As a daughter of a Nazi SS, Annita Bosse Rodgers grew-up in Eastern France, the Province of Lorraine. It was at the height of World War II and her province was then under German rules. As the daughter of a French woman and an SS soldier, she suffered throughout her early years of rejection, abuse and shame. At age 22, she married an American Soldier and followed him to the U.S. with her seven-month-old baby girl. Another baby girl was born six years later. Annita became an American citizen in 1967. Today, re-married for a second time, she lives with her husband in Denver, Colorado. The publishing of her father’s memoirs and her own, is the history of suffering of divided families and countries.

DANCING WITH DEMONS
A Love Story

Denver, CO: February 4, 2024, Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to Dancing With Demons: A Love Story by Laura Holloway.

A compulsive writer and ‘journaler’, Laura Holloway has always felt compelled to “just write”. Navigating her own life of struggle and love, this book is filled with insights, life shifts, and lessons learned from the experiences of living her life. This is the book Laura says, “I would very much have liked to read, before the beginning of a particularly epic journey — or series of Journeys, as the case would be — for me. That really would have been helpful.” In sharing these experiences, she hopes to help and connect with readers who may find resonance with their own life journeys.

Journey Institute Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “Laura is an exceptional writer who has the ability to put the lessons she has learned in a way that feels warm and comforting as we move along on our own journeys. Along with her visually stunning words we were touched by her reason for writing.” In her own words: “Perhaps just one person may read these ponderings and stories, and feel less awkward, “different,” or alone. Maybe in reading, one person will feel a little bit seen.” We couldn’t be more honored to be joining Ms. Holloway on her publishing journey.

Laura Holloway has been called a Warrior Poet, a Goat Girl, and a fierce, semi-feral, unabashedly “sensitive” Animal Queen. She lives amidst the forest outside a small Colorado mountain town, where she spends most of her days cleaning up after animals, scribbling in her journals, and daydreaming about mermaids and butterflies. She loves long walks in the woods with her pack of dogs, goat, llama, and the occasional enthusiastic cat. She never worries about looking like a total dork to her super-cool teenaged son. Laura aspires to master (and write about) the Art of Truly Loving Herself (really and for real), as well as loving this whole weird, wonderful world of whack-a-doodle Humanity. She also intends to lay off the chocolate, and not take in any more cats. “Dancing with Demons: A Love Story” is her first proper book.

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 YEARS
A Memoir

Denver, CO: January 10, 2024, Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to Around the World in 80 Years by Patricia Peterson.

Pat Peterson has always been an adventurer. This memoir is more than a simple retelling of adventures around the world, nor is it a travel guide. Rather, in her own words, Pat wanted to “…share the remarkable diversity of planet Earth and the people I have met around the world whose stories along with my own are worth knowing”. From falling off Long’s Peak after a blizzard, Camping in the USSR, Dancing on the Red Rock’s stage, teaching in Haiti, surviving Scuba in Fiji, climbing Fuji, discovering Korea, walking though Machu Picchu and Patagonia, hitchhiking 25,000 kilometers in France, boating in Provence and British Columbia, experiencing a rescue in the Grand Canyon, fishing in the Yukon, meeting Martin Luther King, Jr., digging dinosaurs, recounting the story of the Bishop of Okinawa, summiting Kilimanjaro, and many others.

Journey Institute Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “We are honored to be embarking on the latest adventure for Pat in publishing her incredible book. This chronology of her life and adventures over the years reads more like a movie combination of Ann Bancroft, Amelia Earhart, and a female Indiana Jones than a memoir. It is a privilege for us to work with Mrs. Peterson on documenting this life well lived.”

Patricia Peterson is a graduate of Colorado University with honors, taught in France as a Fulbright Teaching Fellow and has taught all over the world everything from swimming to French, English as a foreign language to Sociology and so much more. She thrives on volunteer work and now at 85 years old spends her time on her love of classical music and opera and believes in keeping active.

EMPTY PLATES
A history of hunger relief and the evolution of Feeding America Food Banks

Denver, CO: December 14, 2023, Storytellers Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to EMPTY PLATES: A history of hunger relief and the evolution of Feeding America Food Banks by Dave Krepcho.

As Mr. Krepcho says in his introduction to the book “…we are at a point in history where we have learned enough about the hunger dilemma and can achieve a major turning point in ending it”. Yet, despite all the knowledge and advancements hunger remains a problem globally. It is time for a fresh look at the problem of hunger. To break the stereotypes and misconceptions that are widely held about hunger and Empty Plates is a comprehensive look at the past, present, and future of this problem.

Journey Institute Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “We are thrilled to be embarking on this publishing journey with Mr. Krepcho What is unique about this book is what it is not. It is not a textbook or a history book on the hunger issue, though it does provide historical context. Nor is it a nonprofit management manual. It is a compilation of topics on the subject of hunger that we have not seen before in one place. This book should be required reading for anyone who does work to fight hunger, is interested in solving the hunger dilemma, and anyone who can play a role in helping to end hunger once and for all.”

Dave Krepcho has a B.A. from Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio and recently retired from a career of over thirty years in the food bank industry. Beginning in 1992 as the Executive Director of the Miami Food Bank and went on to work for Feeding America in Chicago, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization. He was responsible for developing national programs designed to obtain more food for the 205-member food banks across the United States. In 2009, he was named Central Floridian of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel.

Originally started as writing prompt responses during the pandemic, this new British Mystery series was so enthusiastically received by readers in the Facebook group that Jenet re-visited the stories and compiled the first three into a collection for this book.

Journey Institute Press, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “We are excited to bring this collection to publication with their enticing characters, setting, and plots. Because of the way these stories are written over time as short prompt responses, collectively they represent a fast-paced new form of story with little extraneous detail, moving from one thrilling scene to the next without room to breathe in between.”

Michael Jenet is originally from Belgium and spent his first several years living between England and Belgium before moving to the United States. An 8-year veteran of the US Air Force, he began writing non-fiction and has won awards for his work. This is his first work of fiction. He lives in Colorado with his wife, family, and new veteran service dog ‘Minny’.

POETRY COLLECTION

Denver, CO: March 20, 2023, Word Binders Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to a collection of poetry from Chris Cervantes Dunn. A Junior in high school, Chris has a passion for literature and writing. They also have strong opinions when it comes to how to make the world better, on both small and larger scales. This collection of poetry is their first to be published in book form.

Journey Institute Press Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “Being a teenager in today’s world comes with more challenges than perhaps ever before. Their collection of poetry is incredibly powerful. This is strong, necessary stuff and will be a snapshot in history for generations to come.”

During their time in high school, Chris has participated in Wheat Ridge’s Speech and Debate team, which has increased their ability to speak in public, and sufficiently express their ideas. Within this, they have also been able to grow as a leader, especially when it comes to being a section leader within Wheat Ridge’s orchestral programs. They are headstrong, and always willing to share their opinions.

Given the state of affairs in our world, couldn’t we ALL use something to laugh about? Something to distract us from the negativity that bombards us at every turn.

August 23, 2021, DENVER, COLORADO
More than just a funny story, we all want something real, and really funny.
Something that brings us along for the ride and gives us the belly laugh we’ve all but forgotten was even possible in our lives.

What if the answer to those all-but-forgotten belly laughs came from a Coloradan’s adventure of moving her entire family of four to Italy for one year? What could possibly go wrong?

Everything!

Joining her on this comical journey will transport the reader, if only for a while, to a place and time away from the troubles and strife of the day.

Sometimes we all just need a break. My Modena offers that break in a hilarious true story of one woman’s attempt to do the simplest of things in a foreign country with hilarious results.

“My Modena is a scrumptious literary tiramisu, layered with history, art, food, fashion, culture (and culture shock), all topped with generous dollops of hilarity.”

– Dianne Hales, New York Times bestselling author of La Bella Lingua, Mona Lisa and La Passione.

“My Modena is an utterly hilarious memoir of expat life in Modena, Italy.”
– Christina Lynch, New York Times bestselling author of The Italian Party

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Andrea Susan Valentine Gelfuso Goetz is an environmental attorney who adores Italy and all things Italian. A year in Italy with her husband and two kids, while living in an apartment that was like camping, with tile, and in a city that was like God’s attic, made her appreciate Italian culture, art, and heart-stoppingly gorgeous Italians. She lives with her family in Colorado.

The back cover copy you write for your book is among the most important marketing messages you’ll craft. It’s the essence of your book’s most exciting features, distilled into a few hundred words. It typically serves as the foundation for your online book descriptions, as well as any press releases or pitches you make to the media. It will get re-used and re-fashioned for dozens of purposes. Whatever labor you expend on perfecting it will reward you in the long run.

Here are the key principles that publishers and authors alike use to create what should become a masterpiece of your book marketing and an essential piece of your book metadata.

Back Cover Copy for Nonfiction (Non-Narratives)

The most important question you must answer in your back cover copy is: Why and how will the reader benefit from this book? If you know your audience well, then you know the problems they face; your back cover copy should tell how your book addresses these problems head on and helps readers overcome a challenge or succeed.

Two of the most common mistakes that nonfiction authors make in crafting their back cover is:

Focusing too much on a description of the book’s content, rather than how the content will help, inform, or entertain the reader
Focusing too much on the author’s background, rather than how the author’s credentials or experience helps them expertly address the subject matter

Rather than crafting copy that’s a long, solid block of text, you can help ensure the copy is read by including (in this order):

A headline at the top of the cover that succinctly sums up the key benefit or selling point of the book—or consider a convincing quote (blurb) from a recognizable authority who recommends the book
About a 100-200 word summary that expands upon the headline and demonstrates the value of the book
A bullet list of features and benefits the book provides to readers
A final sentence or two to close the message, with a mention of the author’s credentials if not earlier described
(optional) Praise (blurbs) for the book from recognizable authorities
(optional) A brief author bio and author photo at the bottom of the cover

A professional designer can work wonders in arranging this information in a way that helps it get read, especially if you have a range of elements you’re trying to assemble (description, blurbs, bio, photo, awards, and so on).

Back Cover Copy for Fiction (and Nonfiction Narratives)

It’s not uncommon for traditional publishers to put nothing but blurbs or book reviews on a novel’s back cover, especially if it’s by an author who is already well-known. But that’s rarely the best strategy for authors who don’t already have an established audience. Potential readers will want to know what the story is about before committing, and the hook you provide may determine whether they start reading the first page or chapter. (The same is true of memoir and other true-to-life stories.)

The hook for the back cover isn’t so different from the hook you’d put in a query letter to a literary agent. The hook needs to convey:

Who is the main character(s)?
What do they most deeply desire?
What stands in the way?
What is the setting or context for the story?

If you can’t identify what the main character deeply desires, then ask: What challenge do they face? What sets their story in motion?

Ultimately, what you’re trying to get across is an intriguing story premise. For example, My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult tells the story of 13-year-old Anna, who was born as a “savior sister” specifically so she can save her older sister’s life. When Anna turns 13, she is told that she will have to donate one of her kidneys, and she sues her parents for medical emancipation.

That length of description is all you need to sell the story to potential readers. To improve your own story description, read the book marketing copy for dozens (even hundreds) of books in your genre, and pay attention to length, point of view or voice, as well as how much of the story is described. For example, it’s very popular for contemporary romance novel descriptions to be written from the point-of-view of the heroine. Here’s how the book marketing copy for Baller by Vi Keeland starts:

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera.

In those 60 words, we know who the main character is, a good idea of what she desires (or will desire!), and what her challenge will be. We also know the setting or context.

No matter what category or genre your book falls into, you have to pack a lot of punch into a couple hundred words, sometimes less. Don’t just write one version and consider it done. Write multiple versions, test and gather feedback, and improve it until you feel it’s the best possible sales piece for your book.

The Limited-Edition Bicentennial Cadillac Convertible Joy Ride
A Novel by Michael Jai Grant

Denver, CO: September 4, 2022. Word Binders Publishing, an imprint of Journey Institute Press, today announced it has acquired the World English Rights to the novel, The Limited-Edition Bicentennial Cadillac Convertible Joy Ride, from first time author Michael Jai Grant.

An introspective sixteen-year-old girl, and an elderly woman battling dementia abscond in the senior’s classic Cadillac to escape their tormentors and resolve a dark family secret. This adventurous tale of two women on their mission to redefine ‘Home’ is told through a surprising and insightful narrator: the car. Meanwhile, the families are in hot pursuit…

Journey Institute Press Publisher, Michael Jenet, commenting on the upcoming publication said: “We are excited to be on this publishing journey with Michael Jai Grant. His brilliant writing and vibrant characters are as incredible as his story is unique. When we met Eve and Muriel through the unique vantage point of the ‘narrator’ and the adventure they embark on, the writing took us with them in vivid detail. We can’t wait for the world to meet them too.”

Michael Jai Grant holds the record for earning the highest number of coveted HappyGrams for his essays as a young writer. The Limited-Edition Bicentennial Cadillac Convertible Joy Ride was born of a deep understanding of youth culture with its energy, angst, and limited capacity for foresight, contrasted with the sharp knowledge of an older mind, stuffed with experience and patience, on the edge of its inevitable waning. Though it is a stated fiction, Michael’s cinematic observations of dubious family members, temperamental cars, and his ambitious quest to live his truth were the driving fuel for this dynamic tale. An accomplished photographer, ardent traveler, and constant writer, Michael can often be seen walking a variety of dogs around North Stamford, Connecticut where he shares a fulfilling life with his husband, the artist Jon Galt.
