Who and What We Are

After Dafna Michaelson Jenet finished her 50 in 52 Journey of traveling to all 50 states in the 52 weeks of one year in 2009 we found ourselves asking the question “what next?”.  We had learned so much on the Journey from the 500+ people she met and with such a vast network of ordinary people doing extraordinary things we found ourselves wondering how we could best put that knowledge to use in helping others.

The Journey Institute is the answer to our question.

We wanted to continue the work we began on the Journey of elevating, empowering, and engaging people to live better lives; to become their best selves solving problems that affected them and those around them; to build community where people come together with various skills and passions to find solutions that benefits everyone around them.

Our primary focus is on those in underserved communities: women, youth, bipoc, and lgbtq+.

We know that many people have incredible ideas, empowering stories, and a hunger to help others in their communities, but they lack the means or support or avenues to share those stories, to put their ideas into action, to get started.

Whether via the TED stage, writing and publishing a book, serving on youth or adult advisory boards, speaking to spread their message or awareness about their idea, or simply getting started towards their goals; for many these steps are simply out of reach.

We want to help elevate them and put all of these tools and opportunities within their reach.

We are passionate about helping people.  We have created Workshops that are packed with intensive tools that have immediate impact.  Tools that anyone can use today to begin creating change at whatever level they are or want to be.

We created a non-profit model of publishing to help eliminate the barriers first time authors face while still providing the highest quality publishing services and support of larger publishing houses.

We curate TEDx events to help give voice to those who are normally overlooked, often unearthing global life-changing Ideas Worth Spreading and other times simpler, but just as powerful, ideas that can change whole communities.

Within this work we have created a Youth Advisory Board to help underserved youth gain real world board skills as well as event management skills running our TEDx Cherry Creek Youth annual event.
We also have an adult advisory board serving the same purpose for adults in underserved communities for our TEDx Cherry Creek events.

We want to continue the work of the 50 in 52 Journey to help engage people no matter where they are on their journey and help elevate them and then empower them to make a difference in their lives, in the lives of others, to change their communities and, we hope, ultimately, to change the world.

Our work is fostered on the notion that only in community can you create culturally relevant and sustainable solutions.
